What is a Snap Jacket?

A Snap Jacket is a plastic sleeve that slides around a weakened piling. The Snap jacket has a factory split that runs down the length of the plastic pipe with molded grooves so that a connecting rod can be slid into place and hold the Snap Jacket together once installed. The point of having the factory split down the length of the Snap Jacket is to make installation easier.

Once the Snap Jacket is installed around the weakened piling it will act like a mold. The concrete is then poured between the piling and the Snap Jacket. This will create a cast and strengthen the damaged piling. It is important to remember the Snap Jacket must be at least 4’’ larger in diameter than the piling that is being encased. This is to ensure that enough concrete will be poured around the piling to properly strengthen the piling.

This process, if properly installed, is cheaper than replacing the piling but should be considered a temporary solution that gives a few more years before replacing the piling.

A Snap Jacket fully installed will be from above the high tide line to below the ground level.
