One reason to have a bottom survey/debris removal: old fishing tackle wrapped on pilings.

Wrapped pilings should be inspected after major storms. Debris can gouge and tear the wrap making it ineffective

Growth on pilings can hide the damage being done by marine borers. Even wrapped pilings should be cleaned and inspected annually.

We inspected two mooring systems in New Smyrna. Moorings should be inspected and cleaned at a minimum of every 3 years.

Inspection on 4 year old wrapped pilings. Piling wrap should be cleaned annually to keep barnacles from growing in the seam, making the wrap less effective.

Piling wrap should be cleaned regularly. Barnacles and oysters can grow in the wrap seam, making the wrap ineffective.

A recent dock inspection revealed that the pilings were not wrapped all the way to bottom, leaving the pilings exposed to marine borers.
